Interesting answer, Berio's 'Spectraphonia' (1968) in 12 channels.
But no cigar, Kevin.

Have had some "private" responses, one right, one not right.

soon!

Hint: The first octophonic composition for tape playback actually
involved
three composers and three pieces, one of which was finished first, two
of
which were premiered on the same concert, and one of which was finished
but never performed...all three within 6 months of one another.
