The platform situation is a mess. Especially if you take
the Internet into account. Consider the following questions.
Which platform is best suited to Java programming?
For which platform is there the best software for music
Which platform has the best real time audio i/o library?
Which platform is most standard for IP communications?
It's likely you would not obtain the same answer to all
of the questions.
Personally I think linux is a way for computer musicians to
forget about commercial platform wars and let the IP
service providers listen to us rather than assuming Windows
as a standard for everything.
