Dear friends:

My own understanding of the word, "observances",
and its common usage is in line with the Webster's
College Dictionary definition, as follows:

"observance, n. 1. an act or instance of following or
obeying, or conforming to a law."

whereas, what I believe Mr. Humon means is more
in line with the word, "observation", defined as:

"observation, n. 1. an act or instance of noticing or
perceiving."

Again, just being academic (and ironic, of course).
