ANNOUNCING THE FINALISTS OF THE 1999 HULTGREN SOLO CELLO WORKS BIENNIAL:

"Incantation 1" for amplified cello and computer generated tape by
C. Matthew Burtner (Stanford, California)

"Garland" for cello and video by Robert Carl (Hartford, Connecticut)

"Fast Music" for solo cello by Don Freund (Bloomington, Indiana)

"Pizzicato" for solo cello by Arthur Jarvinen (Sylmar, California)

"The Artist and His Model" for cello and tape by Charles Norman Mason
(Birmingham, Alabama)

"With Love" a fantasy for cello, decorated cello cases and prepared tape
by Vivian Adelberg Rudow (Baltimore, Maryland)

"Parallax 2 'Apparitions: Fine Lines'" for cello and tape by Paul Rudy
(Kansas City, Missouri)

"Pipeline Burst Cache" for cello and tape by Craig Walsh

This program of finalists will be performed three times by Craig
Hultgren - Saturday, July 31 at 2:30 pm in the Steiner Auditorium of the
Birmingham Museum of Art; Sunday, September 19 at 4 pm in the Performing
Arts Studio of Emory University in Atlanta as part of the Next Fest
Series; and in November in the Cathedral Square Art Gallery in Mobile.
Audiences in attendance at the conclusion of each concert will vote to
award the $1,000 Birmingham Prize, the $1,000 Atlanta Prize, and the
$500 Mobile Prize.
