THIRTEENTH Records announced the release of James Phelps' new CD,
ATALLMIRROR, April 15 during the Annex Group's annual
computer-music/multimedia event at Northern Illinois University. The CD
features Phelps' music and performances by internationally-known, Blue
Note recording artist Fareed Haque as well as Myron Myers, star of opera
and concert stages in the US and abroad.
Much of the music on the CD was computer-composed and computer-synthesized
using software designed by the composer. Haque offers several
improvisations based on a ten-chord, computer-composed sequence. Myers'
tracks are from the monodrama, "about Myron" , composed for and recorded
by Myers in 1995. Artwork for the CD was designed and produced by Bart
Bridger Woodstrup, artist, alum and current student of NIU.
James Phelps' music has been described as "a slowly floating,
quasi-improvisational world" (Contact!), "richly atmospheric" (Fanfare)
and "breath's incarnation as sound" (Computer Music Journal). His music is
performed frequently in the US and abroad and is distributed on the
THIRTEENTH, BELLA, SEAMUS and CENTAUR labels.
ATALLMIRROR is currently available from the NIU bookstore as well
as Electronic Music Foundation at www.emf.org.
Phelps, Haque and Myers are all Professors at NIU's School of Music,
located in the Chicago area.
