UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND - UA is seeking to appoint a Head of the
School of Music following the retirement of Professor John Rimmer
in February 1999. The School of Music has a reputation for
academic and musical excellence and is in the process of
expanding its size and diversifying its course offerings. It
presents lively programmes of advanced learning, teaching and
research in the following areas: Composition, Musicology, Music
Education, World Music and Performance. Applicants will need to
have an outstanding academic reputation in one of the areas
covered by the School and a demonstrated ability for academic
leadership with an emphasis on people skills. The Head of the
School of Music will be expected to enable the School to develop
its full potential in contributing to the development of music in
the Auckland area and in New Zealand. The person appointed to
the Headship of the School shall have tenure as Professor. The
appointment shall carry with it Headship of the School of Music
for a term of three or five years, in the last year of which it
