An OPEN INVITATION CONTINUES TO SONIC ART - RADIO ART - VIRTUAL SOUND
SPACE
COMPOSERS AND ARTISTS! DEAD LINE 1ST OF MARCH! ( STAMPED )

To celebrate ProTon Sonic Art Groups 11 years artistic activity we are
curating and gathering an international sound art collection /
exhibition
EAR of the SEA with the theme Water and Sea.

Project has started in 1997 and continues until the year 2001.

EAR of the SEA

is a collection where all sound works represent the theme in different
forms of sound compositions: water and all voices of the sea are used as
a starting point and as materials for an artistic process.

This project EAR of the SEA is now coming to its final phase and we are
looking

A)

- interested artists to participate with their ready works to this
collection

B)

- modern art museums
- galleries
- radio stations
- net radios
- other interested institutions

which could be interested in projecting sound art for their audiences.

Our idea now is to enlargen this project to 8 hours ( we have appr. 6
h.)
So that it fills whole night broadcast or whole museum visitor day
without any rewindings. Nicam stereo gives a good sound guality with
external speakers and tv screen can be used to deliver information of
participating artists, so also could net radio be used.

EAR of the SEA collection is very suitable f,g, for long night through
broadcasting as its already participating pieces have very nice
meditative feelings and as an entity it is has very rexable character.

The basic idea is to play back the collection from slow speed NICAM
videotape lasting 8 hours to high quality speakers. The videotape also
includes in the intervals between the selected sound compositions a
short c.v. and a programme note from the authors as text and
announcements in English. Also some limited graphics maybe will be
included in intervals keeping in mind that basically it is a collection
of sound works.

This expanding international collection of sound artists´ works has
opened now third invitation to artists to send pieces. The deadline 1st
of March in 1999 and collection probably will be including sound works
from appr. 30-40 artists from more than 20 countries.

Send your proposal via ordinary airmail on a DAT-cassette
with sampling rate 44.1 kHz to

One work in one cassette only with the programme note and c.v. max. 12
lines each. Works and other materials will not be returned. They will be
archived for theater and film academy students´ listening use.
Recommendated duration is 10-15 min. but longer and shorter works also
are accepted. The chosen works and authors will be listed 1st of July in
1999.

ProTon Sonic Art Group does not carry any responsibility of lost
materials, so please do not send your originals. ProTon is not paying
any fees or royalties as it is only making collection and after offering
it to be played or broadcasted for public in museums and / or radio
stations. Those institutions carry the full resposibility for paying to
composers´ royalties and brodcasting fees of music.

Therefore it is very recommendable to be registered composer - please
mention also which NATIONAL COPYRIGHT UNION( f.g. ASCAP, GEMA, TEOSTO )
IS TAKING CARE OF YOUR INTERSTS AS AN AUTHOR OF YOUR WORKS. This
information is necessary to be sent to institutions which hopefully
performproject collection EAR of the SEA in public.

In August 1999 the first collection is planned to have premiere in
Finland: plans include one trough the night broadcasting in Finnish
radio, maybe also in net and a projection for public on the fortified
casstle island Suomenlinna in front of Helsinki with an loudspeaker
orchestra in the nature.

The EAR of the SEA project will be ready to start touring at the end of
year 1999. If You have some contacts to modern art museums, mediathekes
and radio stations or You have ideas how this collection could be made
in public in Your country, please deliver this idea forwards, maybe we
will find new ways to get our pieces for new audiences worldwide.

A sample demo CD-R with 2 min. samples of works is also planned to be
made to promote the collection, if You have some ideas of it or some
connections to
Institutions to sent it, please let us know.

Success for the last year of the 2nd millenium, joine EAR of the SEA
