At the upcoming EMS 2005 in Montreal http://ems05.concordia.ca/ I am
presenting a paper and must register. $200.

My life is so full and complicated that (1) I need to demonstrate
acceptance at a prestigious event for work-related reasons, and (2) I
need time to devote to family health issues. It's unlikely that I
will get to anything other my own presentation.

In the academic and non-academic worlds this is a 'vanity press'
situation, but while Chairs and Deans demand validation through
research, it's the only game in town.

IMV, a major failing of the 'in-person' conference is that the paper
is given, there "MAY" be a printed form of the papers, less and less
likely these days, and this document will be sold as a book.

For me, the sessions need to be webcast and documented. They need to
remain accessible after the event. The same with the concerts and
other presentations of works.

Chapter and verse of my experience in this is not provided here, but
a few ideas as to how to implement many of these ideas (over a period
of 20 years) will be found through eContact!, Sonus.ca, the JTTP and
the structure, documentation and presentation of Harvest Moon.

There is more here, but one ICMC organization is worth 3 string
quartets. Me, I would prefer to write 2 quartets and have a
computerized chicken.

HHhhrrrmmmmmphphphp!!

Best

Kevin
