yes austin texas...not sure if he's much of a reader
though (lol)...i admit i did like the first 2 minutes
of a string quartet he wrote until the 4/4 rock beat
kicked in. ahhhh.

and you make a good point concerning whether
innovation is really a necessity. i prefer to say i'd
do what i do regardless, though my habit is to
constantly try to reasses etc.

i guess the (inner)battle is against cliche or
staleness (meaning for me a lack of perspective or
attention to what you're doing, or doing it by rote
etc), but it's also a matter of context and who's
listening. and innovation does not 'not equal' cliche,
i recognize that...i.e. something can not be
innovative and yet still not be cliche.

it's a difficult thing really. and to be honest, i'm
not sure if i could tell if what i'm (currently) doing
was cliche or not...it's so hard to tell when you're
so close to your own work...i have a feeling i'd be
doing it anyway though...there seems to be a certain
point where i don't have much choice of what comes out
of me...'it's this or nothing' :)
