hm... i think it's time i explained what i meant
by "crash and burn". i wasn't at all implying
any sort of mental or physical collapse, nor the
breakdown (kill the self!) / therapy sessions
encountered in some hard-ass theatre programmes
and psychology courses, but rather encouraging
the students to take risks in critical
discussions in which they may on occasion "se
planter" - yeah "go out on a limb" is a bad
translation, but crash and burn was apparently
too quickly interpreted as being somehow related
to mental stability and well-being.

i love email, because you get to explain and
reexplain silly slips of the tongue or
fundamentally simple misunderstandings over the
course of days, while in a face-to-face
discussion it would have been resolved in a
matter of minutes, or would have never been an
issue in the first place, having been made clear
by the intonation of the speaker, and through the
other participants' familiarity with the speaker
and his/her personal mannerisms.
