It's interesting to think of music as a sonification of consciousness. A
funeral march is
a sonification of appropriate attitudes which it perhaps brings about.
The eroica is a
sonification of attitudes relevant to a romantic artist's sense of
obstacle and freedom. Schoenberg's
Verkalerte Nacht is in the psychoanalysis section of the jewish museum
in new york. One next
big bold step might be to try to make this idea more explict.
What I find wrong with scentific sonifications is the pitch vs. time
plot, or similar such x vs. time plots,
which reduces the massive parallel universes of music to an impoverished
2d or maybe 3d conception.
Music come towards our native perceptual brilliance -- which is why it
sounds like music. Figure out how to map
that to the nyse and you've got it made.
