I just thought some of you may be interested in hearing about the Open Ears
Festival, which is taking place in Kitchener, Ontario on April 26th-May 1st.
There's a real cross-section of events ranging, and not strictly
electroacoustic. There's an array of installations (including contributions
from David Rokeby, John Greyson and David Wall, Ron Kuivila, Anthony Round,
Ian Newton and Jascha Narveson, as well as the Cyclofoozelaphone, a bicycle
driven wind organ for children by Waterloo area artists Mary-Catherine
Newcomb, Leslie Wyber and Peter Hatch.). As well, there's a production of
Tim Brady's opera The Salome Dancer. And last but not least there are live
performances from Negativland, Ikue Mori & Zeena Parkins, MIDI Tapant, Bob
Ostertag & Pierre Hébert, Diamanda Galas, Hildegard Westerkamp & Anne
Bourne, and more.
There's also two pre-events: a lecture by Brian Eno, and a performance by
Bang On a Can.
This is, without question, the biggest and most exciting line-up I've seen
yet at the festival. I'd strongly encourage anyone who is interested to
check out the website at...
