I bought this unit for less than 500 cdn a few weeks ago.

Everything's great about it except that there's a significant high
noise floor when using the internal mics (something that is not at all
represented in the examples on the company's website! - I use my
binaurals instead), the whole thing is very plastic-y, and the
recording level of recordings is quite low (-6 dB at full - but no
added noise if the file that you normalise was recorded using good
external mics).

Pros are that it's very light, records a range of formats (but only
44.1), will accept up to 2Gb of Flash card memory (I read that it will
unofficially accept up to 8Gb), allows for very easy transfer to
computer (much faster than DAT real-time), and you can use inexpensive
rechargeable AA batteries.
