If you dont need audiophile quality and is reasonably handy with a
soldering iron use Google and search for 'gainclone'.

These are very simple to build DIY power amps based on single-chip amp.
Most people use the LM3875 from National Semiconductor (cost around 7-8
US dollars). The design is so simple you dont need circuit boards and
stuff. Just wire directly into any box you have available.

Best of all they sound surprisingly good (depending on the power supply
of course).
