I have purchased SONY 5.1 and 6.1 amps at Dumoulin (a chain in
Quebec) for under $250 each last summer. These were the amps used for
the AMP Symposium and Butterfly Installation Instrument last year at
Concordia. (Future Shop is more expensive now -- they are aiming at
the mid-level market and price accordingly.)
The audio spec at lowish levels is "no more than .09% THD from 250
milliwatts of rated output, stereo mode". This is pretty good for 6
channels of 100 watts.
