A local media access centre has *the* best fire alarm sound I've ever
heard. In fact it could be one of the best sounds I've ever heard of any
sort. It's a sort of semi-musical random waveform mush with some more or
less in-tune intervals. It's located in a big echoey marble stairwell.

I've been tempted to sample it, but unfortunately whenever it goes off the
fire brigade is called automatically, and we haven't yet managed to work
out how to turn off this feature.

It's not all that alarming as sounds go, so I'm not sure if it's any good
as an actual alarm noise.

As for car alarms - the only good car alarm is a dead car alarm. :-)
