Ok, here's my short entry. This is for a paper I'm writing which
computer boys will read.
"Development is an elaboration of existing music in the creation of new
increases a sense of directional movement."
They will say, :"I don't understand it." I will explain it by showing
how this statement applies
to the simple hollywood climaxes they are so fond of. I will not then
suggest to them that they generalize from there,
because that implies being able to think about music abstractly.
Notice that I took some care so that the statement can also apply to the
kind of development we
find in processually-oriented music like EA. I'd be happy if anyone
would care to crit the statement from
within their own sense of practice.
