I'm not up to expressing long views at the moment, but may I register
complete and total disagreement with any musical perspective which
thinks it can be placed above taste. The only way around this that I
can think of is to empty the term of any associations or meanings we

at all. I disagree that "ea" -- a term which never fails to remind me of
the fake westinghouse robot at the 1939 world's fair -- has any use
other than as a political device for favoring one kind of music over
another.
And if someone thinks that "ea" doesn't describe the kind of music they
make,
then there's perhaps a fruitful distinction to be drawn out of that
hestitancy,
rather than clobbering that distinction with your umbrella.
