The HP minidisc recorder uses a limiter that can be set at a specific threshhold
or set to adjust automatically. I've had a lot of problems with this recorder,
volume level being just one of them. Lousy preamp, poor AD/DA converters, and
extremely inefficient use of batteries are others. For the price it was a
rip-off, so am grateful for this discussion as I'm looking for an alternative.
