Dr. Bloodgood’s research focuses on strategic behavior by NGOs and the roles non-state actors play in foreign policy and international regime formation. She is particularly interested in NGOs’ use of informational lobbying, expertise, and protest tactics to influence national decision-makers regarding foreign policy and international regimes. In her past work, Dr. Bloodgood has examined the activities of Greenpeace, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, Friends of the Earth, and Abolition 2000.

She is currently working on a new dataset of national NGO regulation and the effect of domestic political opportunity structures on NGO behavior globally with Aseem Prakash and Joannie Tremblay-Boire (University of Washington); the use of agent-based modeling to understand the operations and evolution of national and global populations of INGOs with Emily Clough (Newcastle University); and methodological and data developments in the study of NGOs with Hans Peter Schmitz (Syracuse University). Additional information on these and other projects can be found in the Research Pages.
