Germination duration

Brundrett (1990), in his review of molds, germination and growth, considered the time taken to germinate as influenced by both relative humidity and temperature, and depending on the fungus species. Figure 18 shows one such plot of the research results. This contour plot shows that at temperature of 20?C and relative humidity of 85%, as presented by the dot on the graph, the germination process will take 100 hours.

Growth rate contour plots:

Brundrett (1990) obtained several contour plots of the growth rates as a function of temperature and RH based on laboratory experiments. two samples of the growth rate contour plots (for Asperillus rubber and Strachybotrys atra in ideal test conditions with variable RH and temperature conditions). The plots indicate that one mold (A. ruber on the left) can grow in drier conditions as low as 72% RH, while the other mold (S. atra on the right) needs very high RH conditions.
