Featuring interviews with faculty, alumni and students in their typical educational environments including classrooms, studios, concert and performance settings, this video will showcase the many talents of this prestigious group of teachers and musicians. Using documented performances and solos performed specifically for the camera, this video will focus on the specialized fields taught in the music department such as electro-acoustic, jazz ensemble, composition/contemporary performance and Integrative Music Studies (INMS). Style The shooting style of this video will be both journalistic and authoritative in its approach and will combine on-the-scene interviews with slickly shot performance footage to best represent Concordias music department. Student and faculty interviews will be edited together at a fairly quick pace to isolate important sound bites, and to avoid lengthy disengaging interviews. Dialogue from the individual interviews will serve as the central narrative, acting as voice-over to performance footage used to illustrate what each subject is saying. Performance documentation of past student concerts and events will be complemented by solos performed specifically for the camera. These solo performances will be staged in the Oscar Peterson Hall, various recording studios, classrooms and off-campus musical venue locations to showcase the talents of the students and faculty. Excerpts from these recordings will be incorporated into the final soundtrack to further demonstrate the talents of the Concordia Music Department faculty and student body. Concept The journalistic style of this promo piece will allow us to concentrate on what is most important about the music department: its people and its diverse activities. The majority of the interviews will take place in the Oscar Peterson Hall while a handful of interviews will be set in other locations to best represent the different spaces located within the department. The dialogue from the interviews will dictate the flow and direction of the piece and will be punctuated by footage of faculty and students in the various classroom, studio and performance situations that make up everyday life in the music department.
