alright so most people seem to be in great support of Mac...and i am thus even more uneducated on the matter - but i'll learn quickly.

software-wise, Logic would be a sound editing program?

and when you mean a security device you really mean a "lock" and not so much an external hard drive for backing up files...(or both)?

thanks again for the help guys/girls, i look forward to getting started

I think MS Office is cheap too with your student discount @ the concordia computer store.

For notation, I use the Finale family.

And I forgot about Word (standard word processing), and graphics too.

Yeah, this is really no joke. The Concordia Computer store sells a variety of cable locks that are well worth looking into. Once I'm able to afford a replacement computer, I'm swayed by the idea of putting my state of the art milliobillioterrabit gigaplectic computertron in an ugly ass container to make it less sexy and stealable.

It can't be said too many times that it's essential to have lots of storage media and work up some kind of personal system where you make regular backups.

I might also suggest a software sampler.

 Quoting Kevin Austin <kevin.austin@videotron.ca>:
 Hi Todd

Welcome aboard.

There will be the discussion about PC and Mac, software and more.

In general, required software will be sound editor, sequencer, notation
program. If you are headed for live ea ... suggestions will come.

Advice anyone?

 best,
