hmmm... You think he's radical, political, known in circles outside classical music, drives Radio 3 listeners to political action?

>And fine art has a stable full of people who are politically annoying. Sometimes they even

Who? Britpack shock tacticians? Name some names! Tell us about the (non-EA) music & art which has raised your political consciousness.

>But not EA. EA is terribly polite and terribly obscure and never seems to>
 frighten anyone.

Sorry, I don't find Steve Martland scary! OK, he has said some pretty angry things about the British musical establishment...

Interesting that nobody in this discussion wants to name composers/pieces that they think are representitive as radical or especially dull. The loudest voices & grossest generalisations seem to reflect a paucity of listening. Maybe I'm wrong.

There are plenty of pieces of EAM I do find disturbing (Wishart: Red Bird; Dhomont: Foret Profonde; Chion: Requiem) or politically thought-provoking (much of the work which gets the acoustic ecology tag: Westerkamp, Schryer...; Åke Hodell: Mr Smith in Rhodesia http://www.fylkingen.se/fr_18_3.html ).

Can we talk about real music, not generalisations? Pete Stollery can start by slagging off my ooeuvre.
