PGP is "pretty good privacy" - its an encryption tool. when i am using
linux i use it to sign my messages, because it is encouraged on four
other lists that i belong to... i also include the address of my PGP
public key in my sig in case anyone wants to send me encrypted messages.
PGP has a public and a private key - imagine a key split in 2 halves,
and you can only get it into the lock if you have a matching two halves
- no two keys will shatter in the same way. if you want to send me
something encrypted, you encrypt it with *my* public key... then i match
that with my private key and decrypt it on my machine... (dont do it the
other way round as i have and sent someone something encrypted with my
own public key, that renders it unreadable!!!! ;-)

i agree.
whats more, if you dont like OT it is then very easy to set up a filter
in any mailer that says 'if subject header contains OT then move to
trash folder'. netscrape and IE will do this, and all *nix mailers can
do even wizzier things...

actually i felt the same. i learnt a lot from that and many of the OT
threads, which got me thinking about ideas for pieces.

hear hear. again, if you dont like, its simple - just filter.

yes... and whats more could become an interesting structure for a
piece... i got talking off list with Rick about his neurology work in
music....

if you are Frank Zappa its 3900 octaves below middle C (or something
like that... its a line from Civilisation Phase III )....

html is a tricky one, if you're reading in a non html mailer it means
all your writing is full of <tags> like <this> and </that> and it makes
it pretty difficult to read... on most mailing lists its good
'netiquette' to disable HTML in your messages... the geekier the mailing
list the more likely you will be flamed for using html ;-)... (as i have)..

yes i agree.
and if we wanted to whinge about everything we could whinge about double
posts etc....
i just hit the delete button if i'm not interested in a thread....
peace... :-)
