It's an interesting experience though; often the way a
movement is rhythmically subdivided depends on the
dynamic of that movement - for example swinging
movements divided in three; sharper, or more static,
movements into two or four counts. And the mimetic
relationship of the accompaniment to the dance has an
obvious parallel to the way that we think of certain
sounds as 'gestures'.

yes, I think that artists from some backgrounds, like
Cunningham, are able to take sound-gestures as a map
for their own movement without the support of a rigid
metrical structure, and of course some superimpose
their own - apparently unrelated - 'text' onto
anything.
