Subject: sound cards/software

hi,
I need to upgrade from my power computing power mac (power center 132) wich
is a 604 chip i think. I will probably be getting some sort of mac g4. I
was wondering what is the sound card of choice thses days? I never keep up
with technological advancements ( a fulltime job in itself) until i need to
upgrade... then I start to do research.
Right now i am using an audio media III card with cubase vst ( I also have
pro tools 5.0 but cant run it till i upgrade my computer).
i know these techno questions can be tiresome but, i would appreciate any
suggestions for sound cards, software, interfaces and ..well...anything i
guess..in the "tool" department that will help me get these sounds ..this
music...out of my head and onto disc ( or something else?)
