ASIA/OCEANA (VOTE FOR 2 IN THIS CATEGORY IF YOU LIVE IN THIS REGION)
Josef Fung (Lydia Ayers, Andrew Horner)
"Composer, Artistic Director of the Chinese Virtuosi (Chinese
instruments), Chairman & Artistic Director of the Zhongguancun
International Computer Music Wave (first computer music festival
initiated in China), Conference Chair of ICMC99, forming the first
interactive performing group and the first computer music website in
China. I will propagate computer music through performances and the web
in China (1/5 of humanity) and Asia/Oceana - via this channel garner new
members and coordinate activities for ICMA, utilizing technologies
invented and set up compositions by its members."
Naotoshi Osaka (Shuji Hashimoto, Takayuki Rai, Keiji Hirata)
"I am a researcher at NTT in Japan and a composer. My research interests
include sound synthesis and music systems. If elected as a board member,
I would like to activate regional events organized by ICMA such as
concerts, symposiums and workshops. This, I believe, will increase
members of the ICMA within the Asia/Oceana region."
Ian Whalley (Andrew Brown, Warren Burt)
"Studio director at the University of Waikato, (Hamilton, New Zealand).
Recent composition is influenced by music from the Asia/Pacific region.
Producer of the New Zealand Sonic Art CD series. Research work in
artificial intelligence and simulation applications in computer music.
Regional editor for Organized Sound. Recent workshop at ICMC Berlin
2000. My contribution would involve integrating an aesthetic and
scientific approach to computer music, and encouraging participation in
ICMC from Australia/New Zealand and Asia through connections in the
region."
AMERICAS (VOTE FOR 2 IN THIS CATEGORY IF YOU LIVE IN THIS REGION)
John Davison (Cort Lippe, Robert Rowe)
"Armchair composer. MS in Electrical Engineering, Purdue University,
1995, with emphasis in signal processing. Currently employed as a Vice
President in the Equities Division of a Wall St. investment bank.
Neither affiliated with, nor beholden to, any special interests;
enthusiastically supports current initiatives to tighten the peer review
process for ICMC papers, particularly with regard for mathematical
rigor."
Martin Fumerola (Manuel Rocha-Iturbide, Martin Fumerola)
"I will work for the integration of the 3 Americas so Canadian and US
members can benefit with the exchange and knowledge of their
Latinamerican colleagues and viceversa. The realization -for first time-
of an ICMC in a Latinamerican country has just started to unveil the
tremendous hidden potential of Latinamerica in the international scene
of ea/cm. One of my goals is to work for a higher insertion of
Latinamerica in the ICMA.
Martin Fumarola is one of the most internationally performed composers
of electroacoustic music from Argentina and has been an ICMA member
since 1990. Recent participation in ea/cm festivals include “Electronic
Music at Lewis 2001”, “Ought-One”, and “2 Days and 2 Nights of New
Music”.
Fernando Lopez-Lezcano (Miller Puckette, Cort Lippe)
"My background is in EE and Music and I’ve been active in the field
since 1976. I was born in Argentina, studied there, worked briefly in
Japan, and in 1993 came to work at CCRMA assysadmin/lecturer/composer
(references? ask anyone who has passed through CCRMA). See
http://www-ccrma.stanford.edu/~nando/. It’s an honor to be nominated.
If given a chance, I will work hard with my fellow ICMA officers to
bring about any necessary improvements, and continue to work towards
expanding the membership base, offering more services to members and
collaborating with other regional associations. In brief, I just want
to help and give something back to the community."
Bonnie Miksch (Mara Helmuth, Hideko Kawamoto)
"I have worked as a composer and teacher in an academic setting for
several years, and during this time have become aware of rigid
compartmentalization within the computer music collective. ICMA has
tremendous potential to bring us all together, and as a board member I
would encourage our organization to draw membership from an increasingly
diverse spectrum of artists and researchers. Within the Americas, I
would advocate support for educational and cultural activities to enrich
our communities and develop new ears."
Joseph (Butch) Rovan (Russell Pinkston, Cort Lippe)
"I have worn many hats on the path from L.A. rock band to Ph.D. in
composition at Berkeley to my current post as director of CEMI (Center
for Experimental Music & Intermedia) at the University of North Texas.
My work as composer and performer is perhaps best known, but I also
gained invaluable experience in the mid 1990s as product manager for MAX
and MIDI hardware at Opcode Systems in Palo Alto. In other words, I have
extensive knowledge of both the creative and business sides of music. As
a member of the Board of Directors I would hope to use this experience
to chart a dynamic and successful future for the ICMA."
