On around 2񩧾002 14:40, Mary Simoni said something like:

How much later?

It is worth noting in this context that October is the start of the
academic year in many European countries. Will the ICMA board take the
needs of its European membership as much into account as those of North
Americans?

I seem to recall that August was a conflict with the start of the
academic year for many Asian members, but I must rely on the advice of
our colleagues located around the Pacific regions for this.

Given that, of the last ten ICMCs, only two have been hosted by North
American academic institutions, it is perhaps not all that suprising that
US/Canadian scheduling concerns have not received the attention folks in
the Northwestern Hemidemisphere might wish. (Nor did I notice the two
American conferences make an effort to avoid what was for me start of
term, but never mind that...)

Getting a "perfect" ICMC schedule is a Holy Grail. No matter what dates
are chosen, someone will be hurtin' (although it is truly unfortunate
when the same someone is hurtin' twice running).

I wish future ICMC hosts and the Board of the ICMA good luck with this.

Greetings,

Peter
