Couldn't agree with you more, Michael. On a
regular basis, I'm told by directors that a
particular musical or ambient cue that I've
written is too 'busy' and steals the audience's
attention away from the story. Maybe that's what
happened when electroacoustic excerpts were
presented and rejected. As well, I also know that
on big productions, quality and talent are valued,
but so are experience and profile. The
post-production team probably went with
professional film sound designers, not
professional electroacoustic composers/professors.
Not surprising, really.
