the M-Audio is a good bet as an interface if you just want to get sounds from
external gear in, or from software synths out. it is not a sound card though,
as it has no onboard sounds, so if you're looking for something that'll play
back MIDI files and such, go with the Soundblaster (although the sounds are
pretty hokey) or splurge and go for one of the lower end yamaha models. Also,
it might pay to shop around as there seems to be quite a few manufacturers
releasing low cost/decent quality interfaces that are 24/96 capable. you should
also keep in mind the number of ins and outs in terms of future expansion. Hope
some of this helps.
