Ok, and there's a tendency to rather throw away things in favor of
something entirely new rather than to have the old stuff being repaired,
and so on ... Yet, apart from the fact that most people like to buy
something new from time to time (not necessarily restricted to
light-bulbs, nor yet due to sheer consumerism), isn't it also lots of
working places that do depend on (continuing) the production / sale of
(new) products -- would you like to economize on those in this case, too
