23° International Composer Competition "Luigi Russolo"
For young composer of electronic music

2001 - COMPETITION RULES

The"Russolo - Pratella" Foundation of Varese to honour the memory of the
futurist composer Luigi Russolo (1885-1947) organizes the 23rd edition of
the international electronic music competition. The competition is opened
to Italian and foreign composers up the age of 35.

1 - Each competitor can take part with one or two compositions telling
exactly the chosen category:

        a) electronic music for tape alone
        b) electronic music with instruments or voice

2 - Each composition must be recorded separately on CD (preferable) or DAT,
for a maximum length of 15 minutes for each piece and having a short
description.

3 - For section B is requested:
- 1 CD complete of work, with the tape and the instrumental or vocal part
- 1 complete score of the piece.

4 -Each competitor must send his written application to the Foundation
before the 31st of July 2001.

5 - The application must be accompanied by:
* a short description of composition
* a full score of the piece (only for Category B)
* a short artistic curriculum
* a personal photo of the composer
* copy of identification document of the composer
* a receipt of 25$ postal order receipt, as refund of costs

6 - The compositions must arrive to the Foundation Secretary, free of
costs, before the 20st of August 2001 at the address.

7 -The secretariat, verifying the material, will eliminate all the
participants who will no respect all these rules with scrupulosity. The
application imply the acceptance of all voices of Rules.

8 - The compositions must be unpublished and destitute of editorial tie,
will not be returned and will become part of the archives of the "Russolo -
Pratella" Foundation. Moreover the Foundation reserve itself the right to
use this material for the public auditions even outside its office residence.

9 - An International Jury will listen and value the works and, with its
unquestionable judgment, will assign the qualifications. The Foundation
doesn't think it's right to provide the Competition with money prizes but
to publish a CD in 500 copies, not for sale. In this CD will be inserted
the first piece classed in each category and eventually other pieces
pointed out from the Jury. Will be assigned also some honor's mentions.
Each competitor with his piece inserted in the CD will have 10 copies free.
The other competitors with the certificate of specialization will have
1copies free. The CD will be successively sent to Institutes, Research
Centers, Radios and specialized magazines.

The Jury sittings, the ceremony of prize-giving and the performance of the
selected works will take place at the Civico Liceo Musicale in Varese
(Piazza Motta). The performance of the award works will take place on
Sunday 23 September 2001 at 5 p.m. The Jury's resolutions will be
immediately announced to the competitors and to the means of communications.
