Have to say I'm with Mr. Wynne on this. My 4 LaCie drives have never
stopped. The oldest, scsi, is probably 8 years. My newest, fw 800,
is a dream, fast and very quiet. I know people who have experienced
problems if they're not careful to properly unmount (eject) them
before shutting down computer. Also, it's best to power up only
after it's patched into computer and computer is booted. Obviously,
good quality ac helps. I live in the country and an uninterruptible
power supply is essential. For my low budget little studio LaCie
drives have worked flawlessly so far.

Not much help to someone who can't get at the data. Disk warrior was
suggested by someone and I too have had success with the app for
non-LaCie drive problems. People from the MOTU group have suggested
that enclosures can cause problems and the drive is okay once the
enclosure (power supply etc) is replaced.
