I met Max several times during the early 21st century. He was always personally lovely, of course, but what struck me most about Max was his quiet, egoless, open mind - the kind that tends to become an innovation magnet under the right circumstances, as indeed Max did, several times during his career. We also played a few violin and piano duets at Jon Appleton's house, which was kind of great.
Max gave us a great deal to carry forward, and I'll miss him.
