Ah yes of course, and the debate must go on...
I find personally that when I wear the hat of an artist and I wish to keep my options open leaving the result undefined, it is creatively liberating. Thus I would allow music = sound art.
Though when I wear the hat of a scientist (or any other pattern defining agent), and seek a clarity in communication I find it lacking to define the terms as such. Also I find it strange that as time goes on that the term music would become less referential. As for the variations in meaning between sound artist and composer I just combine the two, sound-poser:)

One effect it has is that it tends to make people debate the difference between music and sound art. :>)

Does anyone know of studies of the difference/ similarities between the effects of (obvious) music and (obvious) sound art on the brain or in human experience?
