What's the name of the cymbal effect where you get a steady cresc. and you
don't hear the individual hits (with muffled sticks)? Is it on any sample
collection?
I've seen/heard it twice with the Chicago SO on Bartok's Miraculous
Mandarin.
I think it was in the 70's and it was the 2nd time they played it within a
year so it was in their fingers.
Don't remember the conductor but they played it like a well oiled machine -
loud and fast- and along with hearing Horowitz play, ranks one of the
most exciting performances I've ever heard - along with Stokowski's CSO
Tschaikowski's 4th.
