From: Robert MacKay (R.A.MacKay@hull.ac.uk)
Date: Sat Jan 15 2011 - 17:29:39 EST

A joint Ruskin Rocks/NACNet workshop hosted by the School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds, UK.

1200 Thursday 20th to 1400 Friday 21st January 2011

This unique event is intended to stimulate novel collaborations between artists, scientists and engineers who use sound in a variety of contexts: as a diagnostic tool, as an artistic product or as an interpretive medium. The two day, ‘lunchtime-to-lunchtime’ format will combine inspirational presentations with opportunities for researchers from seemingly disparate disciplines to find common ground. The intended deliverables from the event are embryonic ideas that might lead towards innovative research proposals.

There will be a premiere of the piece 'Living Waves' by Robert Mackay, commissioned on behalf of Ruskin Rocks, at 6:30pm on Thursday 20th January. The piece features recordings of Dame Evelyn Glennie playing the new Brantwood lithophone created by the Ruskin Rocks team.
