Re: Audio interface for Mac

I will only use RME, I became a convert when I began A/B comparing the
Fireface400 to everything else out there. I continue to be impressed by
the transparancy of the unit, and its faithful representation of audio
throughout the frequency spectrum. Drivers: RME writes their own, always
have, always will. I have tremendous respect for their 'no compromise'
attitude towards quality and design.

Firewire vs. USB2 ...well if anyone can make USB2 perform it is RME. If
you do the math both protocols provide enough bandwith for all the I/O and
more. There are rumours that Apple will eventually ax Firewire, this is
not confirmed. Firewire is on 100% of Mac, but sketchy on PC side, so
cross-platform compatibility is ensured with USB2. The RME audio
interfaces claim to be able to achieve latency of 14 samples on Mac and 48
samples on Windows... Fireface UC or 400 - $1350 CAD, worth the
investment it will last you for a long long time. Spend a little more and
get a lot more, the MOTU 828 MK3 is $960 CAD

New on the market is the Babyface (a Duet Killer?), more expensive than the
Apogee Duet ($499 CAD for 2 in 2 out), but also with much greater I/O.
$749 CAD. The Duet is certainly is quite good too. The new flagship audio
interface is the Fireface UFX $~$2200 CAD AMAZING unit.

I love my two FireFace 400s. If you go RME you will not be disappointed,
and you will probably hear things in your mix you have not heard before.

Other than RME, PrismSound Orpheus, Sonic Studio/Metric Halo ULN8.

If you have any more questions, just drop me a line.
