The Electronic Arts Experimenting and Research
Center (Centro de Experimentación e Investigación
en Artes Electrónicas - CEIArtE -
http://www.ceiarteuntref.edu.ar) at National
University of Tres de Febrero (Untref) calls for
a day of reflection, debate and promotion of
projects and actions with the environment and our
responsibility regarding the turning point we are
living in defining the future of life in Earth.
The Colloquium will be held on Tuesday, December
7, 2010 at Borges Cultural Centre (Centro
Cultural Borges) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Under the name "BALANCE - UNBALANCE [art +
science x technology = environment /
responsibility" this colloquium seeks to bring
together artists, scientists, philosophers,
politicians, sociologists, technology specialists
and policy-makers, so that we can deepen the
necessary discussion that allows us to deal the
challenges of the crisis of our environment and
help us decide how we could act.

Structured around four thematic areas: water,
land, air and fire, we propose to address during
this colloquium, issues such as: climate change,
biodiversity, water supply, air quality, food
chain. In no way this is intended to be an
exhaustive list but only a first approach to
invite the participation and action from a
variety of perspectives.

Within this Colloquium we want to give
significant space to artists, with the intention
that through their contributions, works and
initiatives, they can help the society to
understand the magnitude of the crisis we are
facing and could also bring proposals to produce
changes both in the micro and the macro level,
related to the decisions and policies that
influence our chances for the future.

The Colloquium room capacity is limited, we
request that anyone interested register in
advance by sending an email with your info (full
name, email, phone and affiliation) to:
mail.ceiarte@gmail.com. An acknowledgement will
be sent by email within 48 hours.

Those interested in participating as speakers,
whatever your area is (arts, sciences, new
technologies, NGOs, public administration, policy
makers, etc.) should submit: the title and a
brief description of your proposal (up to 400
words ), a short bio (ready for publication, of
up to 250 words), a full CV including a list of
publications, contact information: name, email
(main and secondary), telephone, address,
website, and institutional affiliation
(university, etc.) if applicable. Of particular
interest are the proposals from artists wishing
to participate as speakers, in which case they
must provide, in addition to the above, a list of
exhibitions / performances of works as
appropriate. Reference materials can be sent
electronically (publications, images, audio,
video, links, etc.) up to 1MB via email and above
only using systems such as yousendit, email large
file, FilesDirect, TransferBIGFiles or others of
similar features.

Send your submissions until October 25, 2010 to
mail.ceiarte@gmail.com indicating in your
subject: "PROPOSAL Environment Colloquium". An
acknowledgement will be sent by email within 48
hours.

In addition to presentations within the academic
framework of BALANCE-UNBALANCE, artists who may
propose the presentation of their works, if
selected, those will be integrated within the
same Colloquium. Given the nature of the event,
all the artistic proposals should consider the
conditions available in terms of (reduced) space
and the (very short) time to mouting their work,
taking also into account that they should be
self-sufficient for mounting, connect and
removing any parts, materials or devices.
