This made me wonder if it was this piece ... Kol Hatorr by Rajmil Fischman (but can't be because of the date). It's a superb work, and I was priviledged to give it one of its first performances in New Zealand.

Subject: Re: pieces based on recordings of the composer's own baby
As someone who gave birth twice, believe me, the last thing I wanted to do was put my (albeit cute, sweet) little boys in my music! ;-P However, I am happily tolerant of others who wish to do so (and Barry, the Scotties are a lovely idea!). After all, for several years I subjected audiences to my highly personal musings about cancer and survivorship so heck, bring on the children! :-)
I DO recall that at the University of Michigan ICMC (where Barry's incredible bass and tape piece written for Robert Black was performed), there was an extremely intriguing 20-minute (!) long work done that used the (male) composers' son/baby as its sound source. The reason why it was intriguing was because it started out sounding like one of those slightly ooey-gooey doting daddy types of works and then it morphed into something far more invasive and sinister suggesting a conscious or sub-conscious level of hostility towards the subject. I thought it was fascinating! I have no idea if that was the composers' intention but it sure was the message - and a discussion with others afterwards confirmed that I was not the only one who heard this. I cannot for the life of me recall who the composer/piece was - perhaps it will ring some bells for others.
On a more useful note: Steve Beck (LSU) did a nice series of pieces using his small daughter called the 'Sarah' pieces. Steve is a generous guy - I am sure he would be happy to make them available to you.
