Over the course of 30+ years in Europe, it’s been amazing to learn
the number of things were *not* done first or invented in the USA.
Telephones, television, computers, you name it.
In fairness, in quite a few cases very significant work (often
producing the first commercial version) took place in the US. And in
all fields, being first depends quite a bit on how you define
"first", which is not as trivial as it may appear.
